Down and dirty

The 4th of July is approaching and what horrible timing for the museum! The "Heavy Metal" exhibit opens up on the 9th and because of the holiday, most staff will be enjoying a three day holiday which is one less day to work on the exhibit.

However, we are making a huge amount of progress on the exhibit. The big pieces have been moved in, the walls painted, and some small pieces and exhibit cards are now being hung. The exhibit will take off, but I'll venture to say a few things will get added and tweaked in the week after opening. Thats no problem though, any good exhibit will be tweaked over the course of it being up to improve it. Most of this week I have been painting, putting together things, etc.

One of the filthiest jobs I did was cleaning engines. I actually enjoyed this quite a bit! These engines have had years and years of dirt, oil, gunk, and grim sitting on them and they needed to be cleaned up and ready for display. Those of you that know me know that one of my biggest passions/hobbies is working on vintage Vespa motorscooters. This was alot like doing that as they are often neglected for years, just like these motors and need some TLC. I managed to clean up five engines in a day and they look pretty good! Not 100% because they weren't disassembled to be cleaned but they will definitely spice up the exhibit.

Happy 4th of July over the weekend!
